Compare lunar missions

Select two or three missions to compare not only names and dates, but also what their architecture allowed them to do.

What makes a useful comparison

An orbiter can repeatedly map large areas but cannot physically sample the surface. A stationary lander has local ground truth but little geographic reach. A rover trades mass and complexity for mobility. A sample-return mission can bring material to terrestrial laboratories, where analytical capability greatly exceeds what can normally fly on a spacecraft.
