How to use the simulator
Change one system at a time and watch which dependency becomes dominant. A polar site may improve solar availability while making lighting, terrain and communications more complicated. More mobility expands science reach but adds energy, maintenance and rescue requirements. Longer stays make radiation protection, repair capability and logistics more important.
What this model does not calculate
It does not estimate crew survival, launch mass or certification margins. Real habitat design requires coupled life-support, structural, thermal, radiation, electrical, logistics and human-factors analysis.
Supporting science
NASA has studied lunar regolith as a potential radiation-shielding material, while current lunar surface technology programmes also treat power, resource use and autonomous operations as interconnected systems rather than isolated components.
